Biographical research and publications

There are a number of biographical books in the Mifair Publishing series, between them looking at the life of an Olympic gold medallist and music hall variety artist to an industrialist at the forefront of the Industrial Revolution and whose family became significant benefactors.

Historical Books

Research and writing of both historical fact and fiction titles is one of the specialist projects of Mifair Publishing and Michael Fairley. The most recently available titles include, A Woman of Power and Influence, Bobbing - Two Thousand Years of Kentish History, Born to Soldier and many more.

Labels & Labeling

Labels & Labeling has been the global voice of the label and package printing industry since 1978. Founded by Michael Fairley, the magazine was launched in London and the first issue published in January 1979. The magazine supports the Labelexpo shows and Label Summits, and is read in more than 110 countries.

Label Academy

The Label Academy is a global training program designed for professionals at all levels of the label and package printing industry. This includes expertly produced books, master classes, training courses, in-house training, and a knowledge hub.

International encyclopedias

Top encyclopedias published in many languages including the Encyclopedia of Occupational Health and Safety published by the International Labour Office, the Encyclopedia of Packaging Technology published by Wiley, the Academic American Encyclopedia published by Grolier, and the following two encyclopedias published by Tarsus Publishing and the Label Academy.

Strategic and technical consultancy

Following the launch of Labels & Labelling magazine in 1978, the company was soon inundated with requests for market, technical and product research information, particularly on the rapidly emerging and developing technology of self-adhesive labelling. Little was readily available at that time.

Mike Fairley

Mifair Publishing was founded by Michael Fairley, formerly managing director of the Cowise International Publishing Group ̶ a specialised trade magazine and conference group ̶ prior to its acquisition by Tarsus plc in 1998. Following the acquisition he continued as a consultant to Tarsus in the role of director, strategic development, and subsequently founded the Label Academy, a dedicated technical education and training resource for the label industry.

Managing director and senior editor of Mifair Publishing, Michael Fairley has been writing books, publishing and editing magazines and contributing to international encyclopaedias for almost 40 years. During this period he founded some six international trade magazines and was instrumental in helping to create and build a major key exhibition, conference and publishing group.

Prior to founding the Cowise Group, Michael Fairley worked as a further education lecturer, as deputy head of training at Pira, the Paper, Printing and Packaging Industry Research Association, and as Head of Information Services at the Paper and Paper Products Industry Training Board. He is well known as an international speaker at conferences, seminars, workshops and summits worldwide.

An associate company of Mifair Publishing is Labels & Labelling Consultancy which, through Michael Fairley, has been undertaking specialised market and technical strategy projects, writing reports and studies, and contributing to trade magazines worldwide since the early 1980s.

Now semi-retired he works on writing or contributing to encylopedias, education and training publications, as well as researching, writing and publishing books of particular biographical, historical and technical interest.
